Have you ever sat at the window early in the morning and looked outside at the sun shining? Noticed how different it is from the afternoon sun?
I’m not talking 6am sun. No, anything before 10am. It’s like the rays are filtered. Like they’re softer. The afternoon sun shines brightly, and the rays seem to penetrate everything, while in the morning it just gently brushes trees and walls and flowers.
I find joy in that.
On Saturday, we went to a store because I needed a tiny container for my work to store my ‘drops’. Waterdrops, that is. (Want to know what that is, check here. You might have to change the country settings.)
In the store, we saw a simple bread toaster. You know, of those you put the bread in the top, and then it pops out when done. We hadn’t had one of those in years, and on the spot, bought it. That evening I had toasted bread with jam.
It’s so simple, but damn, it brought me so much joy!
Every Thursday morning, just before the week’s groceries are delivered, my husband throws the leftover bread in the garden for the birds and hedgehogs. There’s this turtledove couple that comes every Thursday after the jackdaws and magpies have been, and they clear away all the crumbs.
I love watching them and want to believe it’s the same couple that’s been coming here for years. They are such gentle, beautiful birds, and an absolute joy to watch.
Those are just some random things that bring me joy, and they might not do the same for you. But it’s important to find pleasure in small things, don’t you think?
So today, my question to you is:
What brings you joy?
